Re-Elect Justice Robert Cupp for Ohio Supreme Court
Ohio Supreme Court Justice Robert R. Cupp has filed petitions to run for re-election to the Court. Justice Cupp plans to travel across Ohio to talk with voters about the importance of maintaining consistent decision-making by Ohio’s highest court.
In announcing his candidacy for re-election, Justice Cupp stated, “The work of the court in assuring adherence to the rule of law, and reasoned precedent, is on-going. It’s an honor to serve on the court and to work hard to administer justice fairly. My broad background of experience and service has aided the work of the court in deciding cases solely on the reasoned application of the law. I look forward to continuing that work if re-elected.
Justice Cupp has a broad and diverse history of effective public service. He has served at both the local and state level and in all three branches of government. Before he was elected to the Supreme Court of Ohio in 2006, Cupp served on the Ohio Court of Appeals, 3rd Appellate District, which is composed of 17 counties in northwest and west central Ohio, and is Ohio’s largest appellate district geographically. While serving on the court of appeals, the court’s judges selected him as administrative judge in 2004 and presiding judge in 2005.
Cupp also served 16 years in the Ohio Senate, where his hard work and dedication to Ohioans resulted in his selection as President Pro Tem., the Senate’s second-ranking leader. In the Senate, Cupp served on the Judiciary, Education, Agriculture, Commerce and Labor, and other committees. Cupp served at the local level as the Lima City Prosecutor and was first elected to office as county commissioner, in Allen County, where he grew up on his family’s farm.
